We had our sights on the east face of University peak. The weather aligned on April 30th after a night of harsh wind threatened to derail the plans. We got a somewhat alpine start leaving our campsite at the base of Onion Valley in the dark. The frozen snow let up as the sun went to work once we got to the base of the main headwall. It as a pretty mellow ascent though not something you’d particularly want to slide down. As the snow turned into luxurious Sierra corn we dropped in. The only type of snow that gives fresh pow any competition. After flying down four or five k feet we were nearly the car. The Sierra is notorious for hellish approaches but Onion Valley is not one of them. All in all a great warm-up for planned objectives and A+ turns.
